Virtual Event Set to Commemorate 2010 Haitian Earthquake

Twenty twenty-one marks 11 years since a devastating earthquake rocked the nation of Haiti in 2010. To remember those that were impacted, a virtual broadcast is being held on January 12th at 4:30PM.

The broadcast is expected to feature some of Miami’s most prominent Haitian descendants like Jean Jean Roosevelt, Belo and Mecca of the local rap group, We Dem Zoes.

An estimated 250,000 lives were claimed as a result of the ‘quake that all but destroyed the small nation’s capital of Port-au-Prince. More than a decade after this catastrophic event, the world’s first independent Black nation still struggles to recover.
